Hmong Health Care Ministry

Hmong Baptist National Association

The Hmong Baptist National Association is a Christian organization, headquarter of the Hmong Baptist churches throughout the United States.  One of the ministries within the HBNA is the Hmong Health Care Ministry.  The mission of this ministry is to:

    Improve the health and wellness of the Hmong community through health education and outreach; utilizing the volunteer resources within the community, including Hmong health care professionals, churches and other organizations. 

Primary prevention teaching is our main tool in increasing awareness and knowledge in the Hmong community regarding physical and mental health, family violence, financial and spiritual well-being. 

These are emerging issues in our community that concern and drive us in our work:

Physical health issues such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, chemical dependency, obesity, poor nutrition

Mental health issues such as depression, isolation, hopelessness, poor coping

Family violence: physical abuse, poor anger management, lack of parenting support, issues with inter-generational communication

Poverty

Poor compliance with health care regimen due to cultural and language barriers

As a Christian organization, we believe that spirituality plays a large role in one’s physical and mental well-being. Along with providing health education, we also strive to nurture and support spirituality.  

Our partners:  Hmong health care ministry / Pastoral Care team, Parish Nurse program of Southeast Asian Ministry and Lyngblomsten, volunteer health care professionals, church organizations, Hmong radio broadcasting, members of the Christian church.
